It's 9.33 o'clock a.m. and finally I start my crossing Ibiza-Denia from Es Vedra, the magic island in the west of Ibiza. I'm sitting on my thin kayak in the middle of the enormous sea, and maybe it's exactly this incredible feeling that pushes me to try this cross, which nobody has done before, 100km in the open sea.
The idea to be again a part of the sea is something fascinating and I feel like being a part of the infinity.I advance with my super light paddle made of Kevlar-carbon, designed by the Italian engineer Massimo Mori exactly for the length of my arms, my weight and the intensity of my effort. It's amazing to see how it enters into the water without any splash.
![]() It seems to be an enlargement of my arms! Also the kayak is very special: It's an Australian surfski, nearly 6m long, made of carbon, very rigid and very light: it weights only 7kg and it's also designed for my measures. It's fantastic for surfing continuously these marvelous waves. The sea is pushing me from the east and I'm able to surf the waves as soon as I displace the weight of my shoulders to the front side of my surfski and accelerate a little bit with the paddle.
The surfski is very fast and unstable, and I have to relay all the time on the paddle to avoid losing balance. But I'm trained for this and it's no problem at all.Sometimes I have a little break to drink some Red Bull and make stretching. My fiancée assists me from the escort ship, the "Sirena", guided by Marino Moro. The waves continue to push me in western direction while Sandra is filming me with the handy cam from the board of "Sirena".
Various TV stations in Italy and Spain asked me for this reportage and it became very well.I move on very fast. My Suunto-watch gives me the exact direction of 270°. I may allow myself a little break. In fact I want to try an inflatable tent, made in Italy by Pastimar, where I will sleep in during my future Atlantic cross, attached to my surfski.
The trial is fantastic and I'd love to sleep inside the tent for an hour or two... But I have to continue paddling.Since already long time I can see the Spanish coast, but it seems to me, as I'll never arrive there! But it's always in our hands to make the impossible come true and finally, after 10 hours and 13 minutes, I enter in the port of Denia, where I comply with my destiny. The destiny is always waiting to see how much we desire a result, because things never happen "just like that".
WE make them to happen.
